Thursday an optional ECMO 101 session is offered, with the Symposium Friday. ECMO 101 - This instructive one-day course is designed for healthcare professionals caring for patients with severe respiratory or cardiac failure requiring ECMO support. Elements of veno-venous and veno-arterial ECMO support will be reviewed. Course content includes indications and contraindications, cannulation techniques, patient and circuit physiology of ECMO, and all aspects of patient management and decision making for patients on ECMO. The course will combine didactics and small group simulation with an ECMO circuit utilizing centrifugal pump technology. Symposium - This conference, hosted by ECMO experts at University of Minnesota Health, will help you improve, identify and care for patients who have advanced heart or lung failure. The 11th Annual Neonatal and Pediatric ECMO Educational Conference at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, a conference dedicated to providing educational opportunities for clinicians who care for children requiring ECMO. The two-day event includes lectures from experts, case presentations, panel discussions, and a one-of-a-kind hands-on ECMO simulation session. The conference will provide clinicians of all levels an opportunity to enhance their knowledge of managing pediatric patients requiring ECMO.The purpose of this course is to provide a didactic and “hands-on” based education in an interactive multidisciplinary format for health care providers who care for patients receiving extracorporeal support.
