This 2-day comprehensive course provides a deep understanding of adult ECMO with lecture and state of the art high-fidelity simulation training. The course covers basic and advanced understanding of Veno-arterial ECMO (VA-ECMO), Veno-venous ECMO (V-V ECMO), Veno-arterial-venous ECMO (VAV ECMO), Extracorporeal Carbon Dioxide Removal (ECCO2R), and Right Ventricular assist device ECMO (RVAD ECMO). Learn patient selection, cannulation techniques, anticoagulation, management, and weaning. Basic physics, physiology, and hemodynamics as pertaining to the ECMO patients are discussed. Circuit build and management are covered in the didactic and simulation scenarios. Training provides interactive learning through case scenarios, teamwork, and debriefing. The simulation lab includes multiple stations with realtime hemodynamic changes, various configurations and effects, realistic circulation, and radiographic cannula placement capability. Attendees learn how to provide safe, successful care while managing a patient with the single provider or specialist model. Topics include best practices, program development and financial impacts. The target audiences are cardiac surgeons, intensivists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, advanced practitioners and perfusionists. Multidisciplinary course instructors include a cardiac surgeon, an ECMO specialist, and a perfusionist whose combined experience spans over four decades in ECMO. ELSO “Redbook” is included with course registration. Space is limited to provide individualized learning experiences. For more information and registration, please go to or contact Mel Ricks 443-441-1401 Register before November 15, 2018 and receive a special rate of $1500. Regular rate is $1800.

Comprehensive ECMO Training Course | ECMO Advantage ExtraCorporeal Education Center (EC2)
01/14/2019 - 01/18/2019
Deadline: January 1, 2019
Location: ECMO Advantage ExtraCorporeal Education Center (EC2)
Alicia Schmidt  602-999-4922
In this course, we offer didactic and simulation training designed to reinforce the core knowledge and skillset needed to be an ECMO Specialist (RN, RRT, CCP or MD caring for an ECMO patient). This comprehensive 5-day training course is designed to train clinicians for their role as an ECMO Specialist. Our course is formatted to provide the educational content suggested by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). ELSO has published suggested “Guidelines for Training and Continuing Education of ECMO Specialists”. These guidelines provide a framework governing structure, content, evaluation and on-going training requirements essentially outlining standards that can be used by organizations training clinicians to function as ECMO Specialists. Adherence to and building upon these concepts ensure that a solid knowledge base is established. When partnered with hands-on and/or simulation training the learner develops a strong skill set to provide quality care to the patient receiving extracorporeal life support.
