A Cure for the Common ‘CODE’ For centuries we have tried to revive the dead and despite all the resources applied only three links of the AHA Chain of Survival are supported by data. It is time to rethink our approach to cardiac arrest and not accept an 8.4% survival for out of hospital cardiac arrest. It is time to find a cure for the common ‘CODE’. Join Comprehensive Care Services, Orrum and Dr. Jonathan Marinaro from the University of New Mexico ECMO Program to discuss the use of ECPR in the pre-hospital setting. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.

In this course, we offer didactic and simulation training designed to reinforce the core knowledge and skillset needed to be an ECMO Specialist (RN, RRT, CCP or MD caring for an ECMO patient). This comprehensive 5-day training course is designed to train clinicians for their role as an ECMO Specialist. Our course is formatted to provide the educational content suggested by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). ELSO has published suggested “Guidelines for Training and Continuing Education of ECMO Specialists”. These guidelines provide a framework governing structure, content, evaluation and on-going training requirements essentially outlining standards that can be used by organizations training clinicians to function as ECMO Specialists. Adherence to and building upon these concepts ensure that a solid knowledge base is established. When partnered with hands-on and/or simulation training the learner develops a strong skill set to provide quality care to the patient receiving extracorporeal life support.

This course takes advantage of modern educational concepts to provide clinically relevant material through realistic scenarios and simulation on ECMO initiation, management and removal. This highly interactive approach puts the learner in the position of the clinician needing to make simple thorough complex decisions commonly faced when providing ECMO. There will be limited traditional didactic presentations and a greater emphasis on interactive learning in small groups using accelerated scenarios around specific topics. Hands-on simulation will be used to expose the learner to a range of typical management issues and ECMO emergencies. For both novice and experienced ECMO care givers, the course will provide an exceptional learning environment for solid ECLS concepts and energize ECMO providers to offer state-of-the-art lifesaving opportunities for critically ill patients.
